Sew Happy is a home-studio located in The Woodlands, Texas near the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Falconwing Dr. We welcome students from all over the area, including Conroe, Magnolia, Spring, and Tomball.
What is the age range for your students?
Students range from ages 8 to adult for machine sewing, and ages 6 and up for the handsewing classes.
What is the student/teacher ratio?
I maintain a maximum student/teacher ratio of 4:1 during machine sewing classes. That ensures that each student receives personalized attention and it helps to keep the studio safe!
I've never sewn before! Where do I start?
We will start you from your very first stitch! Students ages 8-18 can either begin with the Intro to Sewing classes, the Mommy and Me classes, or sign up for private lessons. Any of these options will teach you basic sewing skills, introduce you to using a sewing machine, and allow you to complete your very first projects! After completing these introductory classes, you may then join a weekly sewing class and/or other workshops or camps, or continue on with private lessons. Adults may schedule private or semi-private lessons, or enroll in an adult beginner class and from there, go on to take advantage of weekly sewing classes for adults.
I am really interested in taking a class, but none of the listed times work in my schedule! Do you have any other options?
Please email me at sewhappywoodlands@gmail.com and let me know what class(es) you are interested in and what times you are available, and we may be able to work something out! If there is enough demand for a particular day/ time, I may be able to open a new class. If not, there is always the option of taking private lessons on a day and time that works best for you!
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, I do! I offer in-studio private lessons, and semi-private lessons (two students) if you have a friend who is also interested. You can learn to sew together! Please see the Private and Semi-private Lessons page for more details.
Do you offer classes for homeschool students?
Yes! Students can register for any of the available classes or private lessons, and I have specific class times during the school day just for homeschool students. You can find out more about available homeschool classes here.
What about classes or events for Girl Scouts, American Heritage Girls, etc.?
Yes! Larger troops can be broken into smaller groups at different times to maintain the student/teacher ratio of 4:1. I have also done hand sewing badge events with larger groups. Contact me at sewhappywoodlands@gmail.com for more information!
How do I register?
First, look on the website to see class offerings and dates, times, and pricing. When you are ready to register, go to the Registration page and fill out the appropriate form, whether you are a new student ages 8-18 or a new adult student. After filling out the online form, you will be sent an invoice for the classes you selected. You have the option of paying online with a credit/debit card on PayPal, with Zelle, or with cash or check (with check made out to Jamie Mendoza) at the studio. Please note that payment must be received to hold your spot in the class or workshop. If you are a returning student, simply send me an email and I will mark you down for the class you are interested in! If you have any questions, please contact me at sewhappywoodlands@gmail.com.
Can I bring my own sewing machine?
I allow students to bring their own machine for private and semi-private lessons only. I provide machines here in the studio, and I do not have the space for any more during weekly classes and summer camps and workshops. Can I stay with my child during a class/ observe a class?
At the studio, I make sure students stay focused with an instructor to guide them through all lessons. I feel that when parents and guardians are present, children tend to be easily distracted and their attention is split. Their concentration and confidence level goes down, and it is also distracting to other students in the studio. You are welcome to come in to drop off your child and to pick up your child, but I suggest students take classes independently. If you feel strongly about staying with your child, you are welcome to take a Mommy and Me class, or sign up for a semi-private lesson and participate in the lesson.
Can siblings stay at the studio while my child or I am taking a class?
Unfortunately, for safety reasons, siblings can not remain at the studio during classes.
Is food or drink allowed in the sewing studio?
Because we are working with sewing machines, supplies, and fabric, no food or drinks (other than water) are allowed in the studio.
When is payment due for the Intro to Sewing classes/ Adult Beginners Sewing classes?
Payment is due no later than 7 days prior to the start of the first class. Your spot in the class is not guaranteed unless payment is received.
What is the cancellation policy for Intro to Sewing Classes/ Adult Beginner Sewing Classes?
If you have to cancel up to a week before the start of the first class, you will receive a full refund. If you have to cancel between three to six days prior to the start of classes, you will receive 75% credit towards future classes. If you have to cancel less than three days before the start of classes, unfortunately no refund can be given. If you have to miss a class due to illness, please contact me as soon as possible to schedule a makeup class.
When is payment due for weekly classes?
Payment is due before the start of the first class and is required to hold your spot in the class. Space is limited and classes may fill up quickly, so please submit payment as soon as possible to ensure you do not lose your spot.
What is the cancellation policy for your weekly classes?
Because of the cost associated with classes, I can not offer a refund for classes missed, or transfer it as a credit for a future class, but if possible I will make every effort to let you know of any open spots in which you could make up a class! If you know ahead of time that you will be missing a class, please let me know! That way I can offer that spot to someone who may need to make up a class. If you do miss a class, I will try my best to fit you into an open spot when it pops up!
I need to miss a class. What do I do?
If you need to miss a class, please email me at sewhappywoodlands@gmail.com to let me know! If possible, we will try to set up a make up class time.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept credit/debit cards through PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and cash or check (made out to Jamie Mendoza).
Do you offer birthday parties?
I do offer birthday parties! Read more about Sew Happy birthday parties here or contact me at sewhappywoodlands@gmail.com for more information.
Do you sell fabric and/or sewing supplies?
